BOSTWICK Bostwick was built in 1746 by Christopher Lowndes, Merchant-Ship builder, first Postmaster, and prominent citizen of Bladensburg. Home of Benjamin Stoddert, first Secretary US Navy 1789-1801. Click on small picture to enlarge
This was the home of Christopher Lowndes who Died Jan.8, 1785 at an advanced age. He lived at Bostwick, located at 3901 48th Street, Bladensburg, Maryland. He is buried in Addison Chapel Churchyard, Addison Road and 62nd Place, Seat Pleasant, Md. He was a Justice of the Prince Georges County Court during the Revolution, serving from 1753-1785. Furnished cordage from his ropewalk near Bladensburg for ships used during the Revolutionary War.
Benjamin Stoddert also resided at "Bostwick" and at "Beall's Pleasure" as well as his home in Georgetown DC. He is buried in Addison Chapel Churchyard, Seat Pleasant, Md. He was a Major in a Pennsylvania Regiment, wounded at the Battle of Brandywine: Secretary of the Board of War of the Continental congress 1779-1781. First Secretary of the Navy 1798-1801.
