This letter signed by Benjamin Ogle was a verification of Maryland's electoral vote tally, also signed by the ten electors from the state, and directed to the President of the United States Senate, City of Washington. The election in 1800 ended with a tie between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, each with 73 electoral votes. For the first time the vote was decided by the House of Representatives.
