STERLING SILVER SPOON-MADE BY CEASAR GHIESLIN AN ANNAPOLIS SILVERSMITH

CEASAR SHISELIN-1670-1724, Was the earliest known Annapolis, Maryland Silversmith.  On September 16, 1721, Mayor, Benjamin Tasker, Sr. and the Alderman, Vachel Denton commissioned Mr. Ghiselin to make twelve (12) Silver Spoons of the value of Ten Pounds current money.  The best horse to have eight (8) spoons and the second horse to have four (4) spoons.  The race was to run on the Twenty-ninth (29th) day of September 1721, The initials "CG" with a star marks Mr. Ghiselin's work.  Ghiselin was from a French Huguenot family of Goldsmiths who fled Rouen to escape persecution.  His record in Annapolis suggest the family had achieved the social standing that was accorded Gentlemen of the day.
